5 little things : December

December is almost over! And I feel like it just begun. Oh, well. This month has been pretty good, I guess. No bad things to say about it, but I do hate all these sales because I can't shop them. *sigh* Anyways, This month I took more pictures and went through my old picture folders and dug up some good ones. Well, on to the 5 things:

1. I haven't been to the theaters since October
2. Pinterest is my go to for outfit inspiration
3. I'm addicted to Starbucks.
4. I'm a Starbucks gold card member
5. I've had 3 cups o coffee today.

lately : taking one step at a time

I was going through my old instagram pictures and I had a lot of water color time.  Or so I called it. But now since I worn in a school my schedule is from 8a-4p and I have little time to spare now that the sun goes down real quick, but I'm going to change that very soon. I will be planning out my weeks and trying to fit more into my days. Doing more creatively and at home too. I've been lagging it with my photography and blog and I know that but I just can't help it. But the blog is going to be revamped and renewed. I'm very excited to see what will come of this.

what 2014 taught me : growing stages

While growing up I wasn't a real girly-girl. I guess it hit me when I was 13-15 years old since I used to hang out with my friends from church and to me, they were so very stylish! So that's when it all started. My complex, my infatuation with clothes and my need to feel good.  A few years later, my mom passed.  I was 18 and I was a senior in high school. Looking good wasn't my top priority, but my dad gave us money more often, he let us shop a lot more. I guess it was his way of making us feel better, in a sense. Then when I started working regularly I shopped all the time. I mean, what's a 21 year old supposed to do? I shopped for me, my sister and sometimes my dad. I ate out all the time and was obsessed with brand names.

Now, at the age of 24, I am more content with my "personal style". I know I like comfort but a little flair is always welcome to break up my routine. I wear a whole lot of basic skirts and sun dresses are my preference. I know I want to be a photographer and I know I want to be successful in happiness. Brand names are great and all, but I don't turn down a deal. Thrifting is a great way to expand my love for old things and my frame collection.

I guess all and all, my closet has grown with me. You can tell I know what I like if you glance at my closet. Blues, grays, blacks, beiges, pinks... those colors will greet you if you look in there. I have a few pops of colors, but my basic colors are my thing.

Growing up is such a weird thing for me; the smallest things make me feel grown. Getting a Costco club card, buying my first airline tickets, leaving the state without my dad. It's been an adventure these past couple of years, but I'm just glad I've had the sense to embrace time and learned to love myself and know myself.

before and after and the raiders

and the raiders win

This post is jumbled up, as life regularly is. Let's start with the first picture. I started moving around the furniture in my room and then I went to +IKEA USA and got a few things. Now, at the end of the week, I've got everything assembled and in place. I did a lot of simple DIYs with washi tape, too! Now I feel like I have some space to be productive. It feels great. And the last picture is from my instagram in support for the +Oakland Raiders. Now, I'm off to do some serious planning for next week. Ciao.

pinterest inspiration ; bedroom and office

Happy day after cyber Monday! I didn't do much shopping... oh, who am I lying to? I spent half my paycheck already. But one thing that's hitting me already is New Years. With New Years I get all twitchy with wanting to change everything and where do I get some of my ideas from? Pinterest! I bought a small cabinet at +Target and today I'm going to +IKEA USA and getting me a table that I will utilize as a dest. My room will soon look different! thank the heavens! I'll be posting pictures in the page's Facebook. Stay tuned for updates!

words of thanks

It's Thanksgiving tomorrow, but I will be spending it with my family and not blogging... so I thought I'd be cliche and say a few words here. For those who know me, I'm a very lovable person. Like, quite literally, I show people affection constantly. I wear my heart on my sleeve with my family. There have been many ups and downs and arguments and nasty glares, but they're my family. I'm very thankful for them. My best friends, my new friends, and those who inspire me without even knowing. I'm thankful for my little sister and I am very thankful to God who if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have any of that. Thank you to everyone and don't forget to be thankful every day before and after today as well. Be blessed and happy.

tis the season for ... scarfs and layers and all things starbucks

I'm pumped up. Why do you ask? Well, I work in a school. It' also going to be Thanksgiving in a few days. Did you add that up? I'm on Thanksgiving VACATION! It's not as luxurious as it sounds. I'm lounging around, drinking copious amounts of coffee and indulging in way too many carbs, but I'm okay. Come next Monday I'm back to work. One thing I absolutely love about November is that people start layering up, the cold nights are beautiful and coffee is appropriate any time of the day. Not to mention the sales!! I was looking at my Pintrest "inspiration" board and noticed I have lots of looks that are coats with scarfs so I thought I'd post some of my favorites. Enjoy!

FHS Class of 2015

Seniors of class of 2015 know how to show spirit!  These seniors knew how to represent their school and have some fun. The rally was full of whooping whenever "class of 2015" was said or the word "Seniors" was said. The best part? Our homecoming football game was so packed and FHS won the game. We -- as in FHS -- are now second place in the Oakland Athletic League. So I'm really hoping the Tigers win! Go, go, Green and Gold!

Senior Portraits : Jenny

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.  --  Alan Watts
Lately I've been pretty busy with my camera. And it feels awesome. As I had said before, I was kind of putting my photography in the back burner and this week it's been the opposite. Anyways, this here is my cousin. She's a senior in high school and asked me to do her senior portraits. She's in her dance program, in volleyball, her Gateway club and a college program. A 3.0+ student and striving to be better every day.  I'm very proud of her and I wanted to share one of Elsie Allen's High School's students.Go Lobos!

#instantdorkoriginal : FHS Football Team

Go Tigers!  I don't Know if you know this, but I work in my old High School. Yes, I am an OUSD employee and very happy as well. My position is in the PE Dept. and it's quite awesome. I'm a TA (teacher's assistant; just fyi) slash Locker Room Attendant. In essence, I keep the locker room safe and help the girls with whatever they may need. One thing I love about my job is that I get to see the kids practice. Many of these kids are their own inspirations and strengths and it's just amazing to see how much they practice to achieve something, anything. I was planning on just saying that I was an alumni, I took pictures of these kids and they were posing for me and the camera. But these kids deserve some credit. So, GO TIGERS!

#PoshFest2014 : Day 1

Today's conferences were pretty amazing at PoshFest.  I met a few new people and saw a few more that I already knew online. One thing that I loved was the smiles and the encouragement. If im being honest here, I will admit that I don't talk to many Poshers as I would like to, but it's because I myself don't make time. +Poshmark is such a great community. I will take more time to talk to these inspiring ladies and get to know that outside of their usernames. Another thing I loved was that everyone was looking super cute. I myself wore my black forever crop top, my H&M sequin skirt and my new Ninne West blue heels. The look had a little bit of pop and some casualness with the top. I love pairing casual items with more fancy and structured items.

But on to the actual panels; I learned a lot!  Too much to put in just one post. So I'm going to oust some more this week. When I get some down time because this is going to be a busy week. For now, go check out the posts on my Instagram. Good night my lovelies!

Senior Portraits : Loata

Working in a high school can be hard work. It can also be an amazing experience when you get to know the kids as individuals. Athletes, scholars, hipsters, brainiacs, gangsters, troubled kids and lovable kids. I've met them all and I can say I can appreciate each kid and they will help shape me is one way or another. Loata is a high school senior where I work. A 4.0+ student, volleyball and softball player. She's determined to make something of herself, so I thought I'd feature her in my blog. Photography is my getaway, I can only hope I brightened her day as a result.

It's actually starting to feel like fall here in Oakland! FINALLY. The sun's been out but the mornings are cold and I'm wearing layers. Just how I like it. The month's almost over and I still haven't done my giveaway and that's in the works too; Just wait on it. I'll have the giveaway before Christmas. I hope. Onward to the 5 little things:

2. I've actually won an instagram contest
3. Ankle boots are my favorite ( I have 4 pairs)
4. I like to repost old pictures
5. I get carded at the movie theaters -- all the time

As I've said before, I sell my items on +Poshmark. Well, these are my newest addition onto the closet.  There's a few more dresses and skirts along with a bag and a hat. Very random, I must say, but hey. Head on over to my closet and see what's to your liking. And don't forget to add me!

lately : the life of Miss Susy

Lately : I've been adressed as a teacher, I've had kids tell me I look more like a student than staff and I've had a whoole lot of headaches with my students than I'd llike to have. My photography has taken a backseat along with my blogging and I've been selling regularly on +Poshmark. I also can't wait to go to PoshFest and a wedding this nest month!

As I work in a high school, my old high school to be exact, there's been a whole lot of students asking who exactly I am. I've been called teacher more times than I can count. It feels quite nice. But the fact of the matter is that I am not a teacher, I am in essence, a Teachers Aid/ Locker Room Attendant. My hours are splendid and I quite like talking to some of the girls and knowing what they want from life and themselves. Even though I get confused as a student by other students, I like it. One thing I'm trying to make more time for is my photography and my blog. I've kind of left it behind once I started working this job. I'll try to keep up. One thing that's going to be big is next month. I can't wait to see what November has in store for me. Until next time!

Hello Awesome Shop

I've been in love with Hello Awesome Shop ever since I discovered Jacy's instagram. I was inspired beyond belief when I saw her handmade sketches and witty and inspiring quotes. So when I saw her post this on instagram, I commented on it ASAP and then it was sold. The envelope was cute and I loved the paper cut jar she wrote in the back of. And the 10% discount. All in all, Jacy was amazing, and I will be going back to her to get some more inspiration for my wall soon. If you haven't checked her out, the links are attached to the names, and at the very end as well. Y'all have a blessed Sunday!

#shamelessselfpromo : Poshmark

Since I don't have much energy to go out and take pictures of people, I am retaking the cover shots of most of my items on my +Poshmark closet. I must say they're turning out pretty good. I'm having fun taking these pictures, playing with light, focus and editing them so I can make them look cozy and eye catching. The links are above, I hope everyone has a good day!

cover shot

A picture can change how you view things.  And that is one of the reasons why I take my time taking cover shots for my items on +Poshmark. These are three pictures I took to showcase the items. I'm liking how they look. Don't forget to check my closet out! Usename : valenciasusy

sweater weather

 Forever 21 Men

It's sweater weather and I don't discriminate.  I bought this because I can't seem to find nice, simple, sweatshirts. Women's sweatshirts are either very high-low, bedazzled or glittered and I'm all for the bling, just not all the time. So when I saw this sweatshirt in the men's floor I snatched it and now I'm thinking about buying another one, this time the red one. I love to wear this with my basic skirts, yo can't go wrong with this piece.

coffee time

There is always time for coffee. Well, I find enough a time for coffee anyways since I'm all about work at the moment and it's so draining. But, soon, that won't be the case and I'll be able to focus on things I like to do. Until then, time for coffee is my favorite time.

from top to bottom: shirt and skirt; +Forever 21 / dress (top); +H&M  / dress (bottom); +Poshmark / ankle boots; +T.J.Maxx

I'm usually not a selfie kinda gal, but... it was my birthday, you see...  I took myself shopping for my birthday, and I went too selfies while I was at it. Don't look at me that way, you know you take multiple pictures in there just to see how the outfit will look in a different perspective. Anyways, the outcome of these fitting room selfies was good. I bought everything in these pictures, beside the last one since that was the outfit I was wearing. I was also scoping items that can be my giveaway. I'll get more into that later this week, for now, have a good day!

'Cus I'm 24!

dress; +Poshmark / ankle boots; +T.J.Maxx

My dress is a delicate tea cup. Or so it seems. This dress was bought on +Poshmark, the same website I always rant and rave about and where I'm always selling. It had people telling me I looked beautiful and who doesn't like to be told that; on their birthday no less?! I was feeling like I was walking on cloud nine. My birthday was celebrated simply. With my siblings, my nephews, my sister-in-laws and dad. Food, sweets and great shopping is always a good day in my book. I'll post a few more pictures of my #FittingroomAdventures. Until then, go check out my Poshmark closet; Username: valenciasusy. Ta-ta for now!
